So, what’s so great about Camp Melody?

Welcome to post 3 of Camp Melody’s official blog!  We’re so glad you are here! Before we dive into today’s topic, let’s do a quick recap.  In our last post we talked about one of the most awesome activities at Camp Melody:  The Zip Line! While the zip line may be one of the most talked about activities at camp, there are still plenty of others that bring our campers just as much joy.  With that being said, let’s jump into this week’s activity spotlight:  the swimming pool!

Ok, you’re probably thinking, what’s so great about a swimming pool?  Well, the pool Camp Melody uses is totally cool. Equipped with a diving board, rock climbing wall, AND slide, the pool is easily one of the best places to be at camp.  Let’s face it, August in the northeast is no picnic. But our campers can be found cool as cucumbers at the pool. During free-time, the pool is hoppin’! Friends gather and good times are happening!  Campers can join in the fun or sit poolside with snacks. There’s always a line for the diving board, and the shallow end is bustling with a game of water basketball. And that’s not all. At the end of every day, campers can enjoy a night swim (weather permitting)!

While we love creating fun at Camp Melody, our highest priority is keeping your child safe and healthy.  During swim times, fully certified life guards are always on duty.

So, what’s so great about Camp Melody?

Welcome to the second entry for our Camp Melody blog! The next few posts will highlight some of the
awesome activities Camp Melody has to offer. So tie up your hiking boots, and put on your sunscreen,
it’s time for a tour!
To start off, Camp Melody uses Camp Haycock’s camping facilities for our week long adventures. Camp Haycock is a camping ministry that hosts over hundreds of people year-round. From summer camps to family camps, Camp Haycock offers its patrons a great place to connect with nature and the God who created it.

As mentioned in our previous post, Camp Haycock’s facilities have all kinds of activities for your child to enjoy. To kick things off, this blog post will focus on perhaps one of the most highly favored activities of Camp Melody: the zip line!

Every summer, Camp Melody descends upon Camp Haycock’s facilities for a week of fun! Amongst all of the activities, the most sought-after is the zip line! The zip lining journey begins on the ground. Campers must first climb a rock wall to reach the top platform. Once they’ve successfully completed this task, they are greeted by highly trained staff who properly strap and clip each camper safely into
their equipment. At this point, the campers are given a choice. They can either attempt to complete the aerial challenges such as the Lily pads or the bridge (see photos below), or they can hitch a ride back down to earth with the zip line. Squeals and ok, honestly, screams of joy can be heard throughout camp when someone takes the leap of faith off the platform. Cabins cheer each other on from below as they watch their fellow campers soar through the air!

While fun and exciting, the zip line can be challenging. But with focus, faith, and a team behind them, we watch campers conquer the zip line all week long. Even if they think they can’t, many of them do, and we couldn’t be prouder. Watching campers overcome their fear of the zip line is truly a highlight of the week. It produces confidence and pure joy!
